Jirga forms bodies to check lavish spending on weddings.

MANSEHRA -- A jirga attended by ulema and tribesmen in Judbah Kozkalay area here on Tuesday formed committees for every village to check lavish wedding spending.

Cleric Maulana Amanullah told participants that people should be provided with cash handouts under the Benazir Income Support Programme on their doorstep.

He also said the jirga decided that there won't be lavish spending on and dances in wedding ceremonies that would be held in accordance with the local traditions.

The cleric said the people would boycott those involved in lavish wedding spending.

Another religious leader, Maulana Mufti Rasheed Ahmad, said women could cut grass or collect firewood in jungles and meadows and won't use main roads and pass through bazaars to reach there.

Tribesmen, who attended the jirga, promised to follow those decisions in letter and spirit.
