JI writes to UN, world leaders to protect Indian minorities.

LAHORE -- Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) emir Senator Sirajul Haq on Friday wrote to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and other world leaders, demanding practical steps for the protection of the minorities in India.

'India has turned into the largest prison for the Muslims and other religious minorities where their persecution continues under police and other security agencies,' reads the letter.

Turning the attention of international community towards the recent violence in Delhi in which over 50 people lost their lives, Mr Haq reminded the world leaders of their responsibility to protect the marginalised communities.

He said mosques and houses were burnt and destroyed in the violence against Muslims in New Delhi and the entire world had seen on TV screens how the goons of Hindutva led the mobs, killing every Muslim in the capital city.

The JI leader expressed fear that another episode of Rohingya like crisis could be repeated if timely steps were not taken by the UN to stop the BJP-led madness in the world's so-called biggest democracy. Raising concerns about the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 adopted by the Indian parliament, he said the world must put pressure on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw the law.
