JI lashes out at KE for prolonged loadshedding in city.

KARACHI -- The Jamaat-i-Islami is going to stage a sit-in outside the head office of the K-Electric on Friday (today) against prolonged loadshedding in the city.

This was announced by city chief of the JI Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at a press conference held at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Thursday.

Later, Hafiz Naeem addressed a protest demonstration participated by hundreds of women in Baldia Town against the KE. The demonstration was held following a women convention in connection with the upcoming local government elections in the city.

Carrying placards and banners, protesters chanted slogans against the KE and the government for its support to the utility.

Speaking on the occasion, the JI leader said that the party was going to hold the sit-in against the company as well as the government and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) over their extraordinary support to the KE despite its 'corrupt practices'.

He appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take notice of the situation and play his role in providing a relief to Karachiites already suffering from overbilling, prolonged outages, etc.

'KE mints billions of rupees in the name of fuel adjustment but none of its plants are running on furnace oil,' he said, asking the ruling parties to disclose why the KE was supplied gas without any agreement.
