ISLAMABAD -- International Jazz Day will be celebrated across the globe on April 30, to highlight the value of music fusion and raise awareness on the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.

In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30, as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the world.

International Jazz Day is chaired and led by UNESCO Director General and legendary jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as a UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and Chairman of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz.

The day is celebrated to bring together musicians, communities, artists, and jazz music lovers all over the world to learn about jazz and its roots, future of this form of music and impact on the coming generations, raise awareness on the need for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding and reinforce international cooperation and communication.
