IHC to hear cases of illegal housing societies today.

ISLAMABAD -- The Islamabad High Court (IHC) decided on Wednesday to club together 45 pending cases of illegal housing societies of federal agencies and departments.

On the directives of IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, the cases pending for the past nine years, have been clubbed and fixed for hearing for today (Thursday).

According to the court's registrar, cases pertaining to housing societies are pending since 2011. All cases of housing societies owned by state agencies and departments will be consolidated and will be heard before a single bench comprising CJ Minallah, said the registrar. These include cases pertaining to the purchase and sale of plots by government agencies.

The court observed that the construction of housing projects by state institutions was a classic example of conflict of interest. It further noted that institutions that are supposed to be enforcing the law were the ones violating it.
