If centre wants uniform LG system for country it should consult provinces, says Durrani.

SHIKARPUR -- Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani has said that if federal government wants to enforce a uniform local bodies system in entire country it should take provincial governments into confidence and consult them.

The provinces were empowered under the 18 Amendment to amend and adjust local bodies' law to their own requirements and Sindh Assembly too had passed a similar law on LGs, said Durrani.

He was talking to media persons at a gathering of All Sindhi Pathan Youth Sindh activists at his residence in Kiri Nawab Khan here on Friday.

He said that Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan had time and again raised slogan for a separate province but their dreams to divide Sindh never materialised. They made several attempts to mislead people through vicious propaganda, create hatred between different communities and drive a wedge between Sindhis and Mohajirs by tearing down peace, he said.

He stressed that there were no more refugees in Sindh because the Mohajirs who had arrived here after the creation of Pakistan had settled and they had developed bonds of love and brotherhood with Sindhis.

Therefore, there was no need to launch any movement for the division of Sindh, he said.

Durrani said in answer to a question about dispute between Sindh government and centre over the IGP that he did not want to comment on it as the matter related to powers of provincial government and federal government.
