Hundreds of cops get notices for benefiting from BISP.

TIMERGARA/SHANGLA -- The police on Sunday issued show-cause notices to hundreds of police personnel for drawing stipend from the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

Lower Dir district police officer Abdur Rashid Khan issued notices to a total of 377 policemen, including 191 regular and 186 Special Police Force officials

Sources in the police department told Dawn that disciplinary action would be taken against the employees if they failed to satisfy the district police chief. They said wives of these officials had been registered with the scheme meant for helping the poverty-stricken families only.

They said the DPO had asked the officials to clarify their position within a week. They said constables, inspectors and sub-inspectors benefited from the scheme in Lower Dir.

A police official said the department's employees having themselves registered with BISP as its beneficiaries could be sacked.
