Human Rights Portal.

The Ministry of Human Rights (MOHR), in collaboration with the European Union (EU) has launched a human rights information repository. The database is a one-window access point to all the material that makes the human rights regime of Pakistan. This makes the information portal a great resource for the students, academics and human rights advocates. However, the government must still traverse a long road for the promotion and protection of human rights.

Provision of legal aid to the victims could be a good starting point for the state. The government must allot funds for establishing such a facility. The government needs to establish a public defender system to protect the rights of the citizens. This mechanism will prove more fruitful in protecting human rights and providing remedies to those abused.

The MOHR believes that the portal will enable the public to truly understand their rights. Undoubtedly, awareness is the first step in upholding inalienable freedoms. However, it is something that civil society organisations can do as well. Efforts on this front are being made in large numbers. Going a step further...
