LAHORE -- In a major operation, a team of the Lahore Electric Supply Company's eastern circle on Thursday disconnected power supply to a housing scheme over massive electricity theft by its residents in connivance with the developers of the scheme.

The team, led by the Superintending Engineer (SE) Rasheed Ahmad Khan and SDO (Bilal Colony) Sirajuddin Kakar, was tipped off about the theft by some residents in the Mashaallah Housing Scheme a couple of days back.

'During the search operation, the team found electricity theft by the people through an underground wire system laid allegedly by the scheme's developers. We disconnected power supply to the entire scheme,' said a press release, quoting SE Khan and SDO Kakar.

The team submitted applications against all power thieves to the police station concerned for registration of cases.

'Detection bills to charge units are also being made,' an official told Dawn.
