High court moved against Peshawar Zoo admin.

PESHAWAR -- Several citizens of Peshawar have filed a joint petition in Peshawar High Court seeking an inquiry, investigation and fixation of responsibility for alleged negligence at Peshawar Zoo that has resulted in the deaths of various animals there.

The petitioners have sought directions of the court that the conditions at the zoo should be raisaed to international acceptable standards and animals not suited to the environment at Peshawar should be returned to their natural habitats or suitable sanctuaries and immediately be relocated from the zoo.

They request that animals that are not suited to the environment of Peshawar should be prohibited to be brought to the zoo altogether.

The petition has been filed by 24 citizens including Dr Ali Jan, Dr Adil Zareef, Jahan Mahmud Aurangzeb, Rukhsana Kuli Khan Khattak, Farzana Khan Wasim, etc.

Petitioners seek inquiry into death of animals

The petition filed through Advocate Ali Gohar Durrani requests the court that Peshawar Zoo should be made environmental-friendly with plantations according to international standards and that proper trained and experienced staff should be hired to look after the animals at the zoo.

The petitioners state that a laboratory should be set up for the diagnosis and prescription of any medicine to the animals that are suffering from any ailments.
