Heinous crime fell by 20pc in 2019: capital police.

ISLAMABAD -- The federal capital witnessed a decrease in robbery and snatching incidents during 2019 compared to 2018 while heinous crimes also declined by 20pc.

According to an official statement, following directions from Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar, effective measures were taken against criminal elements.

In 2019, total 28 robbery incidents were reported compared to 40 in 2018. As many as 57 suspects were arrested for their involvement in these incidents besides recovery of looted items worth 27.2 million.

Similarly, 438 cases of snatching valuables were reported in 2019 compared to 504 such incidents in 2018. A total of 390 suspects were held and snatched items worth over Rs35 million were recovered from them.

Police also busted 111 gangs involved in similar cases and arrested their 317 members. Cases of heinous nature also declined by up to 20pc due to effective policing measures and hard work of the personnel of the force as well as unique initiatives for improvement in performance.
