Heavy rain, gusty winds batter parts of Sindh.

MITHI -- Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds battered Thar, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Sukkur and Hyderabad towns and their adjoining areas on Monday, uprooting several trees and signboards and inundating low-lying areas.

In Tharparkar, the continuous downpour caused rivulets to flow down the hills in mountainous Nagarparkar region filling up several natural dams and depressions. The back to back rain was a boon for residents of the desert region who were facing a major water crisis and praying for rain.

The area people told this reporter that farmers had started preparing their land to cultivate traditional crops in coming days if the rain continued further.

It also rained in Islamkot and other areas.

MIRPURKHAS: Thunderstorm hit the city and its outskirts and rainfall took place in some talukas of the district late on Sunday night.

Strong winds uprooted several trees and signboards, which blocked roads in different parts of the district.

The rain caused the temperature to drop and cool breezes brought smile to peoples' faces.

Growers expressed joy at the rain and said it would help their crops which risked getting withered due to acute water shortage. It also rained in Sindhri, Jhuddo and Digri,
