Health units being upgraded.

TIMERGARA: The government is upgrading health units across the province to provide care to patients on their doorstep, director general (health services) Dr Arshad Ahmad Khan said on Thursday.

'The government is committed to ensuring visible improvements in the health sector,' Dr Arshad said here.

He visited tehsil headquarters hospitals in Chakdara, Talash and Munda.

Deputy director (public health) Dr Imran Khan, deputy director (admin) Qasim Khan, Lower Dir district health officer Dr Shaukat Ali and medical superintendents of the THQ hospitals were also present on the occasion.

The DG visited health centres and checked services in emergency and general wards, operation theatres, labour rooms, and trauma centres.

He also inaugurated a digital X-ray system at Chakdara THQ hospital and asked the DHO to ensure the early appointment of a gynaecologist to the hospital.

Dr Arshad said his visit to Dir was part of the government's commitment to provision of better healthcare to people.

He said under the new health policy, doctors would be posted to facilities in own areas on the basis of their domicile certificates.

The DG said he won't tolerate dereliction of duty by doctors and other hospital staff members.

He said the government was serious about establishing the Timergara Medical College as work on it was in progress.
