'Govt promoting Harappan culture through projects'.

SAHIWAL -- Commissioner Shoaib Iqbal says Harappa is a 5,000 years old civilisation, having deep roots in indigenous culture in the area called Indus Civilisation and the Punjab government strongly believes in promoting the Harappan culture among the new generation through its projects like the Harappa Museum.

He was speaking to US Consul General William K. Makaneole who called on him at his office on Thursday.

Mr Iqbal briefed the guest on the ongoing development work running under the Punjab Intermediate Cities Improvement Investment Programme (PICIIP) funded by the Asian Development Bank. He spoke about milk production of Sahiwal and Neeli Ravi cow breeds and black buffalo which contributed to production of dairy products and ice cream in the region.

Mr Makaneole said the US had always played an important role in the development of Pakistan and it was looking forward to continue doing so in the future too. He said the purpose of his visit was to open up dialogues and develop contacts with different segments of society in Punjab.
