Govt needs Opp to alter 18th Amendment, says Qureshi.

ISLAMABAD -- Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday said the federal government needed the support of the political parties to make changes in the 18th Amendment. Talking to a local news channel, Qureshi said the opposition parties must understand that the government could not bring changes in the 18th Amendment, which provides greater autonomy to the federating units, without developing consensus

He said the government said we wanted to see progress at the grassroots level and that there was a need to review the 18th Amendment.

It may be mentioned here that Qureshi was a minister of the-then ruling party, Pakistan People's Party, when the amendment was passed in 2010.
