Govt accused of delaying uplift schemes in Karak.

KARAK -- Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl MPA Malik Zafar Azam has said that the provincial government has failed to implement a charter of demands of the Loya Jirga, a grouping of opposition lawmakers from across the Kohat division, despite an agreement to this effect.

He stated this while talking to mediapersons here on Friday. He said the government was making unnecessary delays in initiating work on the development projects to be executed through the oil and gas royalty funds in the name of consultancy.

The lawmaker said if the government intended to execute the uplift projects under the Area Development Programme, then other executing agencies, including public health engineering, communication and works and tehsil municipal administrations should be abolished.

Mr Azam warned that new experiences would not be successful and it would further delay the development of the backward district.

He stressed that the government should ensure the implementation of the charter of demands of the jirga accepted by a government team headed by finance minister Taimoor Saleem Jhagra during negotiations with the jirga members on Jan 15.
