Gilgit-Baltistan to implement environment protection plan.

GILGIT -- The Gilgit-Baltistan government on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Unilever Pakistan to conserve and protect environment and promote sustainable development in the region.

The MoU was signed by GB Environmental Protection Agency (GBEPA ) and Unilever Pakistan at a ceremony held in Islamabad on Friday.

GB Minsiter for Agriculture, Livestock Mr. Kazim Mesum, Adviser to CM on Interior Shams Lone, Chief Secretary Mr Muhyuddin Ahmed Wani and others participated in the MoU singing ceremony.

Under the MoU, signage would be installed at tourists' points in the region for waste management and benches to conserve and protect pristine environment of the region with Environmental protection slogans on them.

In a related development, a meeting, held in Gilgit with GB Chief Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani in the chair, approved various schemes to promote sustainable tourism and protection of forest in the region.
