GCU organises panel discussion on archaeology and heritage.

LAHORE -- The Society of Culture and Heritage (SOCH) of the Government College University Lahore organised a panel discussion on 'Archaeology, Heritage, and Culture: Theory and Practice'.

The panel comprised Secretary, Office of the Ombudsman Punjab Mr Ijaz Ahmad, former secretary of Directorate of Archeology, Punjab Malik Maqsood Ahmad, eminent philosopher Mirza Athar Baig and Punjab University Department of Archaeology chairman Dr Muhammad Hameed.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi attended the event as guest of honour. The event was moderated by SOCH adviser Ms Mariam Dogar.

The panel discussion started with Mirza Athar Baig who discussed the importance of cultural studies in the universities and the preservation of the archaeological sites. He illustrated his point through an example of a neglected and unrecognised dilapidated site on the outskirts of Lahore.

Malik Maqsood Ahmad gave a presentation on the work of Directorate of Archaeology. Mr Malik showed a wide range of preservation and renovation projects taken up by the Department of Archeology, Punjab.
