Gas leakage from tanker claims man's life.

BAHAWALPUR -- The gas leakage from a container claimed the life of a man while scores of others fell unconscious on Monday night at Noorpur Noranga on Lahore-Karachi National Highway, some 30km from here.

According to police, Rescue 1122 and environment department officials, one Rana Noor Muhammad was running a gas decanting plant of a private company near Noorpur Noranga Eidgah.

On Monday night, the gas was being decanted in a tanker when the leakage occurred.

Panicked by the leakage, the tanker driver drove the vehicle out of the plant premises and after parking it near a populate area fled the scene.

As the gas leaking from the tanker spread in the area, several persons, including children fell unconscious.

One of the affected persons, Mukhtar, who was shifted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) given his serious condition, died on Tuesday.

In protest against the incident, residents of a nearby locality, including women, came out of their houses and blocked the main Lahore-Karachi National Highway for traffic.
