Hindustan has now got its national flag. The Constituent Assembly on Tuesday [July 22] approved its design, welcomed it with an exuberance of enthusiasm worthy of a national possession ... and saluted it reverentially. There was no head in the entire House that did not bow in obeisance to the tri-coloured flag of saffron, white and green with a blue charkha embossed in the middle. ... Pandit Nehru ... explained its symbolic significance and assured the members that there was no communal significance attached to it.

The most moving speech ... however, pledging the Muslims minority's loyalty to the flag was made by Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman, leader of the League Party...
