A former IG's perspective.

THE privilege of being a former IG Police of Balochistan and Director General of FIA gives me a unique perspective and a responsibility to speak out about a dire threat to the rule of law in the country I love. Today, the integrity of the institutions that protect our civil order is, tragically, under assault from too many people whose duty it should be to protect them.

An honourable and honest DG FIA has recently been shown the door as he was trying to do his job in accordance with law. The federal government did not have the grace to let him retire from the agency within two weeks of his date of superannuation. What was the urgency? Whom did he annoy so much that he became persona non grata? He chose the honourable course to resign. The government chose the dishonourable option of accepting his resignation.

An IG of a province is yet again under political assault for trying to maintain administrative and operational autonomy as per law. Political executives cannot digest this behaviour as they want the law of the ruler to prevail. While the police and FIA may be staffed by imperfect human beings, the citizens should know that police departments...
