Food street around Burns Road.

The city administration in Karachi has announced to keep the food district around the famous area, Burns Road 'traffic-free' in the evenings to provide a better environment to the visitors to the eateries in the vicinity.

Thus only pedestrians shall be allowed. The traffic from Fresco to Court road will be closed from 7 pm onwards and traffic coming from Arambagh will be diverted to M. A. Jinnah Road and People's Square. It is one of the busiest areas of the city of Karachi and it works as a junction to the roads leading to Sharah-e-Liaquat (Frere Road) and to M. A. Jinnah Road. From Jamia Cloth Market to Merewether Tower, the M. A. Jinnah Road becomes one way and the traffic coming to M. A. Jinnah road from Merewether Tower has to come on Sharah-e-Liaquat (one way) and from Burns road/Shahrah-e-Liaquat crossing, it has to steer left to proceed. Similarly, from this crossing, the traffic leads to Regal Chowk and towards Empress Market which is again a very busy area. This chowk also leads to I. I. Chundrigar Road which is also a very crowded area.

If the Burns road area is converted into a 'Food Street', there will be chaos and mayhem on an already messed up traffic route. Besides, there are colleges, hospitals, institutions, courts, government offices, banks' head offices around this area and making a Food Street...
