Flouting section 144: 60 hospital employees booked after protest.

KASUR -- Saddar police on Tuesday booked 60 employees, including doctors and paramedical staff, of the Kasur District Headquarters Hospital for violating Section 144 by staging a protest demonstration and blocking the road.

Primary and Secondary Health Secretary Ali Jan on Monday paid a surprise visit and transferred as many as nine DHQ hospital officials, including the medical superintendent, over inefficiency and poor performance.

Later, showing solidarity with their transferred colleagues, the hospital doctors and other staffers staged a protest demonstration against the secretary's action.

The transferred employees include MS Dr Asad Akram, Ward Attendant William John, dispensers Rasheed, Ghulam Haider, Amir Rizwan Naz, Ward Servant Rasheed Khan, Aya Ms Asifa Ashiq and Laboratory Assistant Arshad Inyat.

The protesting employees, flouting section 144 imposed in the district, also blocked a road, throwing traffic out of gear.

According to the complainant, Inspector Abdul Rasheed, the protesters were repeatedly asked to clear the road for traffic and obey section 144 imposed by the district administration, but in vain, forcing him to call more police to disperse them.

The police lodged a criminal case against 25 nominated and 35 unidentified persons without any arrest so far.

The case had been registered under sections 188 (disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant), 290 (punishment for public nuisance), 291 (offences effecting public health, safety, convenience, decency, and morals) and 341 ( wrongfully restraining any person) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
