FIA probing 57 cases against CDA officials, Senate body told.

ISLAMABAD -- A parliamentary panel was informed on Monday that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been conducting 57 inquiries related to Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Presided by Senator A. Rehman Malik, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was shortly briefed by FIA about the status of inquiries underway against officials of the civic authority, allegedly involved in corruption and corrupt practices.

After discussion, the committee directed the FIA to come up with complete details of inquiries in the next meeting. The committee, besides other agenda items, also discussed the issue of regularisation of kiosks and Islamabad Citizens Club.

The issue about restoration of kiosks was raised by Senator Javed Abbasi. The committee was briefed that Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad's (MCI) Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) is the licensing authority and CDA after constructing kiosks under a proper design, will hand them over to DMA to dispose them of.

CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed told the committee that the civic authority had already identified sites, where proper kiosks would be established so that they were not scattered across the city.

The committee was briefed that CDA was going to establish newly-designed kiosks at different locations of Islamabad including Park Road, Lehtrar Road, Murree Road, Islamabad Expressway, G.T. Road and in G-7-2, G-7/3, G-10/2, G-11/1, G-11/3, F-10/3, F-10/2, F-11/3, I-8/1, I-9, and I-10.

The committee was of the view that due to razing of kiosks, a large number of people have become unemployed in Islamabad.
