Fawad to set up expats fund for launching projects in Jhelum.

GUJRAT -- Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said he will set up a fund wherein expatriates belonging to Jhelum district could pool financial resources to launch public interest projects in their native area.

He said this at a ceremony held at Shandar Chowk in Jhelum late on Sunday where he inaugurated a model of Rohtas Fort recently installed there. He lauded the overseas Pakistanis, terming them backbone of Jhelum, and said they had always played a vital role in the district`s development.

PTI MPA Chaudhry Zafar Iqbal, Jhelum Deputy Commissioner Saif Anwarand other prominent figures of the area were also present.

The DC told the participants of the ceremony that it was a public-private partnership initiative funded by a group of expatriates beingheaded by Chaudhry Najeeb for beautification of Jhelum city. He appreciated the expatriate community`s contribution to the government`s Clean and Green Pakistan campaign.

Speaking to the participants and media persons, the minister said currently huge uplift funds of around Rs50 billion were being spent on various schemes such as Jalalpur canal, while a Rs15 billion dual-carriage approach road from Jhelum to Lahore-Islamabad motorway near Pind Daden Khan was also...
