Experts highlight potential of energy projects in Thar.

KARACHI -- Energy and economy experts on Monday said the ongoing Thar projects could be an effective solution towards resolving the country's pressing energy sector challenges.

At a webinar titled 'What's next for Thar projects - Challenges and Opportunities' hosted by the Prime News and moderated by journalist and TV show host Zarrar Khuhro, the experts were of the opinion that the government must resolve the ongoing issue of delayed letters of credit (LC) for businesses and industry on an urgent basis as it was impacting the ability of companies involved in the Thar projects to acquire much-needed spares and machinery from abroad.

The experts included energy sector specialist Shahid Sattar, former member of Planning Commission Syed Akhtar Ali and economist Dr Pervez Tahir.

Mr Khuhro pointed out how globally coal accounts for 45 per cent of energy production, while in the year 2021, Pakistan's coal power generation was 14pc of the energy mix and by 2022 it had reached 30pc. He said that...
