Ex-militant commander shot dead in Bara.

KHYBER -- Unidentified gunmen killed a former militant commander in Bara tehsil of the Khyber tribal district the other day, the police said.

Police in Bara said that Said Noor was on his way home in Qaziabad locality of Shalobar area in a rickshaw when he was attacked by gunmen riding a motorcycle. He died on the spot, the police added.

They said that Said Noor was an active member of the outlawed militant group, Lashkar-i-Islam (LI), and was allegedly involved in a number of sabotage and terrorist acts during the unlawful occupation of Bara from 2005 to 2012.

Sources in Bara said that the deceased militant had surrendered to the security forces a decade ago after a successful military operation against LI, during which most of the top leadership of the outfit was either eliminated or flushed out of Bara.
