ECP allows MPs to canvass for by-polls.

LAHORE -- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has allowed parliamentarians to take part in electioneering for the by-polls for 20 seats of the Punjab Assembly to be held on July 17.

In a letter to the deputy commissioner of Lahore, where by-polls for four seats PP-158, 167, 168, and 170 are being held, District Monitoring Officer Adnan Iqbal said that members of National Assembly, provincial assemblies and Senate are allowed to participate in the election campaign. However, they will strictly abide by the code of conduct, directions, instruction and regulations issued by the ECP.

Mr Iqbal warned that violations of the code and regulations shall entail legal consequences, including contempt proceedings as contemplated in Section 10 of the Election Act 2017.
