Drinking water shortage hits Karak.

KARAK -- The residents of Karak city, Kanda Karak, Rehmatabad, Tordhand and other adjoining localities have complained about acute shortage of drinking water.

The issue was discussed at a meeting of local elders here on Sunday. They said that their localities were getting drinking water either in tankers from private tubewells or through rusted pipelines which were spreading diseases.

They said that typhoid, hepatitis and throat diseases were on the rise in their areas for the last few weeks.

They said the tehsil municipal administration and Public Health Engineering Department had failed to provide drinking water to the residents. They said that three of five tubewells of Karak TMA had turned brackish and the remaining two could not fulfill needs of the residents.

When contacted, PHED official Asif Khan here said the total demand for drinking water in Karak city was over 35,000 gallons per day and both TMA and his department were providing only 15,000 gallons of water...
