Doctors close Kohat hospital's emergency to protest attack.

KOHAT -- The emergency of the KDA Teaching Hospital was shut down as a protest after some people attacked and roughed up staffers on Wednesday afternoon.

The doctors and the paramedics said they would not open the emergency until the criminals were arrested and punished.

The president of the paramedics association told Dawn that five to six attackers beat up a male nurse, Waseem Khan, two doctors, including deputy medical superintendent Khan Aksar, and a policeman, and then made good their escape.

Khan Askar later ordered closure of the emergency demanding action against the attackers. He alleged that the police played the role of a silent spectator.

It may be recalled that the hospital's administration had already got registered a case against two men from Naway Kalay area for thrashing a doctor on Tuesday evening, when he asked for the name of a patient, who was allegedly drunk.

Later, the police had arrested the accused, Aminullah and Mohammad Mustafa, and booked them. However, court released them on bail.

Adviser to the chief minister, MPA Ziaullah Bangash told Dawn that the prime minister had given the project's approval during his visit to Kohat in June 2016.
