Dir residents call off protest against power outages.

LOWER DIR -- The residents of Shalkandi Dara have called off their protest when MNA Bashir Khan promised that power supply to the area would be restored within five days.

During a jirga of elders, the MNA promised to restore power supply to the affected area from Samarbagh express line within the next five days. On the assurance of MNA, the residents called off their protest.

Power supply to Shalkandi dara was disconnected by Pesco officials from the Samarbagh express line seven days ago. The people had given a call to take to streets against it.

The residents of both Shalkandi and Munda had formed their separate action committees that showed no flexibility in their stance.

MNA Bashir Khan along with executive engineer of Pesco held talks with members of the Munda action committee. A written agreement was signed on the occasion.

According to the agreement, Pesco construction unit would immediately start work on transmission line to Shalkandi Dara.

It was decided that power supply to the affected area would be restored within the next five days while the consumers would be supplied electricity from the Samarbagh express line. The jirga agreed that consumers of Shalkandi would...
