The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore is at the forefront of extra-curricular activities as well. Ex-Members of UET Dramatics Society have won three awards at the New York City International Film Festival (NYCIFF). Darya Kay Iss Par (This Bank of the River) is a 30 min short drama film which recently won three awards at NYCIFF for Best Narrative Short Film, Best Director and Best Lead Actress. More than 96 films were submitted from all over the world. It's an honour for UET that this short film produced by its graduates has made its mark globally by beating many other countries.

The film is inspired by real life stories and an increasing suicide rate especially in girls of the Chitral, yet there has been no discussion going on the country's mainstream media. The film holds a mirror to the behaviour of the society towards mental health, cultural norms, domestic violence, less and unequal opportunities given to girls. The film depicts...
