Court moved against appointment of Pims head.

ISLAMABAD -- At least four doctors of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday, claiming that the appointment of Pims Executive Director (ED) Dr Naeem Malik was 'illegal and in violation of the Supreme Court orders'.

Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani fixed the hearing on the plea for April 12.

The petitioners -- Dr Naveed Ahmed Sheikh, Dr Muhammad Farrukh Kamal, Dr Syeda Ranna Fatima, and Dr Saif -- claimed that Dr Naeem Malik does not have the administrative experience nor the requisite degree.

A person who possesses no experience in the field of administration will not only cause a halt in the smooth running of the hospital but will also cause irreparable loss to public funds, resources, and time.

It is worth mentioning that after the abolishment of the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Act 2021, by parliament, the ministry of health appointed Dr Naeem Malik, who is a cardiologist by profession, as an acting ED.

'Waste of resources'

A senior officer of Pims on the condition of anonymity said that after completion of MBBS, doctors are offered three cadres i.e. administrative, clinical, and academics.

'A huge amount of resources, mostly from the exchequer, is spent on their education and training; [in most cases] after completion of training, academicians and clinical officers start making efforts to get administrative posts.'
