Coronavirus claims 12 more lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PESHAWAR -- Death toll due to Covid-19 reached 257 as 12 more people died of the infection in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday, according to daily situation report of health department.

Among the newly-recorded deaths, six are from Peshawar, three from Mardan and one each from Nowshera, Swat and Dir Upper.

The province detected a total of 206 new Covid-19 confirmed patients with 44 of them hailing from Mardan; 29 from Peshawar; 15 from Swat; 14 from Malakand; six each from Khyber and Dir Lower; and five each from Dear Ismail Khan and Shangla.

Peshawar continues to lead the overall fatalities with 155 as well as cases, the number of which reached 1,918. The provincial capital has so far the highest number of deaths and confirmed cases.

Reports said that total tally of the healed patients reached 1,256 as 130 more people, who had been diagnosed positive for the infection, tested negative and were sent home after recovery.

Swat has recorded 22 deaths and 366 confirmed cases; Mardan 16 deaths and 273 cases; Nowshera seven deaths and 105 cases; Malakand six deaths and 251 cases; Dir Lower five deaths and 129 cases; Swabi five deaths and 56 cases; Kohat four deaths and 86 cases; and Abbottabad has recorded six deaths and 86 cases.

On Monday, the case fatality rate (CFR) in the country was 2.15 per cent as compared to Sunday's 2.16 while CFR in KP was 5.27 per cent as compared to Sunday's 5.24.

CFR is KP is the highest recorded by any province or region in the country. The provincial capital has 8.08 per cent FCR as compared to Sunday's 7.88 per cent, which is still the highest in any city of the country.

The nationwide CFR has decreased as compared to Sunday but it has again increased in KP and Peshawar. During the last 24 hours, 28 deaths were reported in the country and 12 of them belonged to KP.

It means KP has contributed 43 per cent to the deaths occurred in the country.
