THE coronavirus strain was first discovered in the 1960s. The earliest version of the malady were infectious bronchitis virus in chickens and two viruses from the nasal cavities of human patients coupled with the common cold. These were subsequently named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43.

According to a World Health Organization (WHO) health alert, coronaviruses are from the family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
