Confirmed coronavirus cases in Pakistan soar to 46,915; death toll rises to 1003.

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE/PESHAWAR -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 46,915 on Wednesday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

16,685 cases have so far been detected in Punjab, 18,964 in Sindh, 6,554 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 2,885 in Balochistan, 556 in Gilgit Baltistan, 1,138 in Islamabad and 133 in Azad Kashmir.

13,101 patients have so far recovered from the virus whilst the death toll stands at 1003. The deceased persons from coronavirus include 290 in Punjab, 336 in Sindh, 345 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 38 in Balochistan, four in Gilgit Baltistan, nine in Islamabad and one in Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile 709 new coronavirus cases have emerged in Punjab, taking the provincial tally to 16,685, according to the Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department. 17 more deaths were reported, pushing the total number of provincial fatalities to 290.

A spokesperson of the Punjab health department said that of the fresh cases, 368 tested positive in Lahore. Over 5000 people have recovered from the virus in the province while 180,450 tests have been conducted thus far, the department said.

Meanwhile Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member of Punjab Assembly Shaheen Raza on Wednesday has lost her life to deadly coronavirus. The PTI MPA contracted coronavirus four days ago and was admitted to Mayo hospital in Lahore after her health deteriorated. However, she died today while battling the virus. Shaheen Raza was member of the Punjab Assembly on reserved seats of women.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab, Usman Buzdar has condoled the death of party MPA Shaheen Raza with her heirs. Paying rich tributes to the deceased MPA in his condolence message, the Punjab's chief executive said Shaheen Raza was an asset of the party and her services will not be forgotten.
