Comsats varsity to have rector soon.

ISLAMABAD -- Comsats University is now going to have its rector as the university's Senate on Wednesday approved three names, sources told Dawn.

The post has been lying vacant since February 2017.

Sources said President Dr Arif Alvi while chairing a meeting of the university's senate approved the names Dr Mohammad T Afzal, Dr Zabta Khan Shinwari and Dr Mohammad Bilal Khan for the post of Comsats rector.

Sources said a summary would be sent to the president to pick one of them for running the university which had been facing several administrative issues for the past few years.

Sources said all important positions including rector, registrar and heads of all campuses of the university were being run by ad hoc appointees which has raised questions as to how a university with annual budget of Rs10 billion is being run by temporary position holders.

Until the appointment of a new rector in the next three months, acting Rector Dr Raheel Qamar will continue to run affairs of the university in violation of the rules, they added.

Recently, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Hussain Chaudhry also requested the president to replace the interim rector.
