City sizzles at 40AdegC amid outages.

KARACHI -- Sweltering weather conditions gripped the city on Wednesday as the mercury rose to 40 degrees Celsius while several localities in Karachi experienced hours-long electricity outages.

Similar hot weather conditions are likely to prevail in the city over the next two days.

According to a Meteorological department spokesperson, the weather's intensity was also felt more due to 'nearly calm wind'. The minimum temperature recorded was 27 degrees Celsius.

Humidity was 27 per cent in the morning and 85pc in the evening.

Power outages

Already hit by heatwave and coronavirus pandemic, the city on Wednesday was plagued by continued power outages as several localities remained without electricity for hours, some of them during Sehri time, piling miseries on people. The K-Electric said that the power supply to 'a few areas of Karachi' was affected due to tripping of a 132kV transmission line during the early hours of Wednesday after Sehri time.

It said that restoration work was initiated immediately and power was restored to all affected areas within less than an hour.
