Centre urged to hand over sports facilities to provinces.

PESHAWAR -- Pakistan Olympic Federation (POF) has demanded of federal government to hand over all sports facilities currently managed by Pakistan Sports Board to provinces.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, POF senior vice president and former provincial minister Syed Aqil Shah said that after passage of 18th Amendment, it was right of provinces to manage such facilities.

'The government is saving money because of financial crunch in the country so why not all such facilities that are currently run under PSB should be handed over to provinces instead of spending millions of rupees on their maintenance,' he said.

Mr Shah demanded of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to play his role in issuing a notification to hand over all such facilities to provinces according to 18th Amendment. He said that they would set up a hunger strike camp outside Peshawar Sports Complex if the demand was not met.

He said that players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were being affected due to non-provision of sports facilities that were managed by PSB in the province. 'It is illegal to give funds of sports to other departments,' he said.
