Cash-strapped HMC struggles to provide civic services.

HYDERABAD -- The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) faces severe financial constraints yet it is struggling to ensure delivery of services within limited budgetary allocations to bring about improvement in the city's civic conditions.

Newly-appointed administrator of HMC Fakhir Shakir said at a gathering of the members of Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI), business community and traders here the other day that he would try to develop Hyderabad into an international city.

He announced building a parking plaza to address the city's chronic traffic problems. Cattle market would be organised after public auction and cattle pens would be shifted to the Cattle Colony where solar-powered streetlight system would be made functional.

He said that more fire brigade stations would be set up in the city and existing firefighting system would be improved. Hyderabad's fire tenders also provided service to other districts like Matiari in emergency, he said.
