Cases of financial aid for deserving artists reviewed.

LAHORE -- A meeting of 'Artist Support Fund Committee' was held at Alhamra Art Centre, The Mall, on Thursday, chaired by Punjab Information and Culture Secretary Raja Jahangir Anwar.

According to a press release, Mr Anwar said the private sector would also contribute along the public sector to financial support of the artists.

'The government is taking concrete steps for promotion of art and artists. They are a valuable asset to us and we truly understand their difficulties.'

He further said the services of the artists were everlasting for development of art and culture and the government acknowledged and supported their work.

During the meeting, various cases of financial assistance for the deserving artists were reviewed. In the light of the recommendations of the subcommittee, financial support would be provided to the deserving artists. The meeting decided to take all possible steps for the artists' welfare.

Mr Anwar added that the details of valuable artworks would be collected at the government offices across the province and concrete steps would be taken to ensure their safety. He said the Punjab government was working hard to promote arts and to resolve the problems of artists' community.

The meeting was attended by the heads of all departments of the Punjab Information and Culture.
