Cabinet to mull absorption of Levies, Khasadar into police today.

PESHAWAR -- The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet will consider the proposed absorption of around 29,000 Levies and Khasadar personnel into the regular police force today (Thursday).

KP Inspector General of Police Dr Sanaullah Abbasi told reporters at the central police office on Wednesday that a summary regarding the absorption of the law-enforcement apparatus of the erstwhile tribal belt would be placed before the cabinet.

He said over 90 per cent of around 29,000 personnel would be absorbed into the KP police after the cabinet's approval.

Dr Abbasi said the resolution of policing issues in merged districts was one of his top priorities and the biggest challenge for the police department.

He said the department required Rs450 million for setting up offices in merged districts.

The police chief said the department was introducing an alternate dispute resolution mechanism in merged districts and was likely to complete the exercise within weeks.

Dr Abbasi said the merger of Fata with KP was a 'new liberation' for the people of the erstwhile tribal region and the police would spare no effort for its success.

About the training of levies and khasadar personnel, he said the police were setting up a training institute for them in Khyber tribal district.

The police chief said he was delegating powers after taking over as the police chief instead of concentrating powers in his person.

He said soon after his appointment, he delegated postings of deputy superintendents (DSPs) to a committee, while another committee meant for transfer and posting of officials would also be notified within a week or so.

Dr Abbasi said those getting powers would be held accountable for their actions.
