By-elections in three UCs postponed.

ISLAMABAD -- The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday postponed bye-elections in three union councils of Islamabad, scheduled to be held on Nov 2.

'Keeping in view the ongoing law and order situation in Islamabad Capital Territory, the Election Commissioner is pleased to defer the poll date i.e 02-11-2019 until further orders,' read the notification, which does not explain the law and order situation.

However, sources said that the decision was made by the ECP because of JUI-F's Azadi March on the capital city.

The sources said the ICT administration had been making efforts to get the elections postponed for the last many days, stating that it would be difficult for the administration to provide security for bye-elections because of engagements of police and administration in JUI-F's Azadi March.

The march will reach Islamabad on Oct 31 and it has not been announced by the march organisers when they will call it off.
