Buner villagers protest raids on houses by police in civvies.

BUNER: The residents of Chamla tehsil held a demonstration against raids by Nawagai police in plainclothes on houses in the area.

They threatened to launch a full-fledged protest movement if police did stop conducting raids on the houses of local people in civvies. They said that the family members of Ali Safdar Bacha scuffled with police in Maskipur village when the law enforcers raided his house in plainclothes in search of drug addicts.

The protesters also demanded withdrawal of FRI registered against Imran Bahadur, Naeem Bahadur, Malak Bahadur and Bahar Ali. The rally was led by Muambar Bacha and Naseeb Khan of ANP, Jehanzeb of AWP, Mandan tehsil naib nazim Ashtar Khan, Hakim Bahadur, Javed and Bakht Beland Khan.

The protesters were carrying placards inscribed with slogans against police.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the protesters criticised police for raiding houses in plainclothes and chasing youth in the fields to register cases against them.

They said that police should follow law and should not chase youth in fields, enter hujras without search warrants and raid houses in absence of policewomen.

They said that local elders were not supporting criminals and drug addicts but police should take them into confidence to uproot social evils.
