Budget has nothing for the jobless, says PPP.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Sunday rejected the annual budget saying no relief was given to people suffering from unemployment and pandemic of Covid-19.

Addressing a press conference at Zardari House, PPP Secretary Information Dr Nafisa Shah said the PTI government had put Pakistan in multiple crises.

'No relief was given to the poor rather the government has burderned them with Rs450 billion indirect taxes,' she said.

She said 11pc cut was imposed on the share of the provinces in violation of National Finance Commission (NFC) Award. She said after the cut it would be difficult for the provinces to fight against Covid-19 and locust in their areas.

Spokesman for the PPP Chairman Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Senator Rubina Khalid and MNA Tariq Shah were also present at the press conference.

Dr Shah said Pakistan did not need a traditional budget this year because of Covid-19 which is the biggest threat to the people. She said the budget should have been a peoples' budget and in the interest of the people.

She said this budget was criticised by every sector because it failed to address the real issues. 'The government gave wrong statistics despite the fact that the pandemic will remain in Pakistan God knows for how long,' she said. She said the budget had disappointed government employees by not increasing their salaries.
