Bajaur college students protest attack on teacher.

BAJAUR -- Students of Government Postgraduate College, Khar, here on Monday blocked the main Bajaur-Peshawar Road to protest attack on a teacher by unidentified assailants on Sunday night.

A large number of students and teachers participated in the demonstration, which continued for about six hours.

The protesters, who chanted slogans against the district administration and the police, condemned the attack on Prof Ikhtiar Gul.

The students pointed out that Prof Gul was in the teachers' hostel when some unidentified assailants knocked at the door to his room on Sunday night. They said the attackers fired bullets when the teacher opened the door, but luckily the bullets hit windows. They said the lecturer remained unhurt in the incident.

They demonstrators said the firing caused fear and dread among the teachers and students living in the college hostels.

They criticised the police for not providing sufficient security to the college.
