Avoiding the obvious.

JUST like every Pakistani government worth its name, the sitting setup in Islamabad is planning measures aimed at cost-cutting. And just like every Pakistan government worth its name, the sitting setup is staying away from doing the obvious; closing the markets early, and reducing the length of the work week. This is as funny as it is tragic.

All over the developed world, markets close latest by 7pm even when the sun is up till 10pm in certain countries.

It is time the Pakistani nation stopped this waste of electricity in the name of lighting up all the shopping areas till midnight; and way past midnight when it comes to shopping malls.

Working from home for Pakistani bureaucracy does not work because the official setup remains paper-based where a section officer generates a document or a summary that is kicked up the chain of command where every officer signs it as 'seen' till it...
