Ashiana scam: Court extends Shehbaz's judicial remand for 10 days.

LAHORE:An accountability court on Tuesday extended the judicial remand ofPakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif for 10 days in a case pertaining to the Ashiana housing scheme scam, as his 10-day physical remand ended. Earlier, the accountability court reserved its decision in response to the National Accountability Bureau's (NAB) request for a 14-day extension in judicial remand as Shehbaz was presented in court.

Strict security arrangements were in place with blockades installed on different routes as the citizens faced traffic congestion. On October 5, Shehbaz Sharif was arrested by NAB for his alleged involvement in the Rs 14 billion Ashiana Housing scam, having interfered in board affairs and taking measures in violation of the law by illegally cancelling the contract of Lateef and Sons contractors in 2013".

Shehbaz was transported in avehicle with tinted glass, as the authorities decided against using an armoured vehicle. His sons, Hamza and Salman also reached the accountability court.

Speaking to journalists outside the accountability court, PML-N spokespersonMarriyum Aurangzeb denied accusations of corruption against the former chief minister, claiming that he had worked day and night" overlooking affairs of the province. The number of security personnel deployed here [outside the court] is indicative of the fear [of the accusers]" she said.
