Asfandyar to lead marchers from Nowshera.

CHARSADDA -- The Awami National Party has decided that its central president, Asfandyar Wali Khan, will lead workers from the Rashakai Interchange, Nowshera, to Islamabad on Oct 31 for the anti-government protest.

The decision was made during a meeting of the party's think tank here at Wali Bagh on Friday.

The meeting, which was chaired by Mr Asfandyar, finalised the party's plans for participation in the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl's Azadi March against the government, said a statement issued here.

It decided that the party's units in all four provinces would chalk out strategies for the Oct 31 protest in line with own conditions.

The participants said it was the democratic and constitutional right of political parties to hold public meetings, rallies and marches, so they hoped that the government would remove hurdles on all Azadi March routes, especially highways, and allow political workers to stage protest.

They said skyrocketing prices, growing joblessness and economic crisis had badly affected people, especially those from the middle class.

The participants expressed concern about the deteriorating health of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari in custody and flayed federal and provincial ministers for issuing 'irresponsible' statements about it.

Mr Asfandyar said the government's policies had brought economy on the verge of collapse.
