Anti-polio campaign resumes in Swabi's Razaar tehsil today.

SWABI -- The anti-polio campaign will be resumed on Monday (today) under tight security here in Razaar tehsil, the area where two lady health workers (LHWs) were killed during their field duty on Wednesday last by unidentified assailants.

Officials in the district administration and health department told this correspondent on Sunday that the campaign in Razaar tehsil was suspended soon after the incident, while it had been completed in the remaining three tehsils, including Chota Lahor, Topi and Swabi.

They said that a special campaign was also run on Sunday to cover the refusal cases.

Swabi deputy commissioner Shahid Mahmood, DPO Imran Shahid and health officials, led by district health officer Dr Mohammad Tariq, have held several meetings to chalk out a strategy to complete the campaign in a peaceful environment.

The sources said that the district police and administration consoled the vaccinators after the killing of two health workers and advised them to complete the campaign in Razaar with full dedication.

When contacted, Dr Tariq said that all arrangements for carrying out the campaign had been completed and the vaccinators were being provided security umbrella according to their demands.

A senior police official said that some of the areas in Razaar tehsil had been covered before suspension of the campaign and the remaining would be covered in the three-day drive starting on Monday (today).
